Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have officially announced Injustice 2, which is planned for release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2017. The rumors of the Injustice sequel was confirmed when a leaked photo of a promotional poster featuring Batman and The Flash who were getting ready to duke it was sent to Polygon by a GameStop employee. Man, the honor system such is dead dead, folks.
Following up with the first game which was well received by fans and critics alike, Injustice 2 will continue to follow suite with current story in the ongoing comics as DC’s superheroes and villains rage war against each other. WB Games have released this synopsis:
“Injustice™ 2 continues the epic cinematic story introduced in Injustice ™: Gods Among Us as Batman and his allies work towards putting the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime. In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth’s existence at risk. Players can play from the biggest DC roster ever offered in a fighting game, from classic fan favorites such as Batman, Superman, Supergirl and Aquaman, to astonishing new villains like Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd. Battles will take place across arenas that have evolved in scale and span across iconic locations such as Metropolis, Gotham City and Atlantis.”
The sequel will be supporting a level up system and customization for each character, which explains a lot since everybody is armored up in this trailer. Warner Bros Games will not be attending this year’s E3, but I’m hoping that Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat creator and head of Netherrealm Studios will hopefully make an appearance on either Microsoft’s or Sony’s press conferences with more to show.
Injustice 2 is set to be released in 2017 on XBOX ONE and PS4.
